I've Written A Teen Romance!

I don't know what has gotten into me but I'm back at writing in wattpad! Right.

Maybe it was because I was just bored at being stuck at home and I have nothing else to do. Or maybe... it's my inner desire to crush those cheesy novels I keep on seeing on wattpad and I wanted them to show how teen romance should be done. Ha!

Martyrs of the Modern Era is not a new novel of mine. It's just a revised edition of the novel I've written back in college, with a cringey title "Operation: SELOS". I decided to change the title because...why not?

But it wasn't only the title that I revised.

I mean, the whole crappy story.

Before, the story centers on the fake dating between the two main characters, Jo and Rhian. But since I was so ignorant that this trope has been used a gazillion times, even popularized by that movie To All The Boys I've Loved Before, I finally decided to toss it out and focus on its other themes: which is martyrdom.

Almost every character here are martyrs.

Johann Esteban, nicknamed Joe, has been in a recent breakup from his 5-year relationship with Jasmine, a classmate, and a co-actor from a performing arts group. It happened right after he caught Jasmine kissing another boy, two months before the second school year started (with which the novel first takes place).

Of course, you'd expect a boy who has seen such infidelity to grow resentment on the girl, right?

Wrong!

In Joe's case, it's not. He still wishes to be with Jasmine even after she has replaced him with another boy, a handsome jerk-looking Kenneth, also a classmate and a fellow theater actor. He believes Jasmine was just manipulated, seduced, and wasn't thinking straight. And sets on exposing Kenneth's deep-buried secrets in order to win his girl back.

Adrienne Pioquinto, nicknamed Rhian, is the other main character here. She's a small young lady with a feisty attitude, determined on joining the rock band Skyscrapers no matter what the costs.

One night, after finally being granted an audition from the band, her performance was interrupted by the arrival of Joe, who is actually a friend of the other band members. This sudden interruption costed her her dream and sets the start of the two main character's goals colliding.

What makes the matter even worse was that they are classmates. And seatmates!

Day by day their goals clash, until they realize that maybe destiny has planned something between them two. But will they be brave enough to accept the truth? Or will they just continue to be martyrs in this modern era?

I have finished this novel before. But since I decided to make this story undergo a major revision, right now it's still considered a work in progress.

This is written in taglish. The genre is teen fiction with a bit of romance, and is written for young adults ages 13-18. I'm planning on publishing one chapter every three days, every 6 PM.

Seven chapters are already posted in wattpad. If you're interested on giving it a try, you can read this at: https://www.wattpad.com/story/221735586-martyrs-of-the-modern-era
